“Made in USA” – How Titan Abrasive Fulfills This Promise

Titan Abrasive products have been made in the US since our founding in 1953. When my uncle owned the company, everything was fabricated in-house at our factory. (I learned my manufacturing and blast equipment expertise from him – he was the master.)

Back in those days, fabricating Made in USA blast equipment was much simpler: our supply chains were still stateside. And, our equipment had far fewer components.

Fast-forward to today. Our completely redesigned blast cabinet, for example, includes a complex electronic control panel, LED lights, proximity switch door sensors, and dozens of other components not found on the 1960 version.

This means our engineering team spends a great deal of time vetting suppliers to ensure components and parts are made in the US.

Steel / pipe fittings / cast iron valves

We use US-sourced steel for all our products, including blast rooms, blast cabinets, etc. Currently, we don’t have trouble getting steel material — the problem is rapidly rising prices.

Because of the current supply chain troubles, we have to buy electrical components and steel plate months in advance (and then keep our fingers crossed).

We purchase our pipe fittings, including elbows, reducers, etc. from Ward Manufacturing in Pennsylvania. Ward has been manufacturing in the US since 1924!

In order to be ASME-certified, pressure tanks have to be made in the US. Titan blast machines also include our proprietary non-clogging, heavy-duty cast iron abrasive regulator valve – designed and manufactured in the United States.

LED lights

Sourcing the LED lights, which come standard in all blast rooms, as well as being a design feature of our blast cabinet, was tough!

Manufacturers claimed their lights were made in the US, but when pressed, we’d learn they weren’t made here.

After months of searching, we finally found a company in New York that makes LED lights in the United States – the only company to do so.

Doing business with this company has been fantastic. For our blast cabinet, they designed a kit that includes the wiring, driver and lights for the window frame.

Two days after receiving our initial PO, the kits arrived. You definitely don’t get that type of turnaround when doing business with companies that off-shore their manufacturing.

Electronics

As products become technologically more complex, the hardest components to source have been the electronics.

As you know, just about everything to do with electronics is made in China or elsewhere. Components made in the USA are subject to huge price swings: a component made in China will cost $20; the same component made in the USA can cost $150.

We make every effort to source what we can in the US.

What “Made in USA” means for Titan Abrasive

As a consumer, I purchase Made in USA products for our home and personal use. To me, “Made in USA” means better quality, as well as keeping jobs here in the US.

At the end of the day, however, it’s really about the two labels that grace every product that leaves our facility: our Titan Abrasive name and logo and the “Made in USA” flag.

When you see both labels on your blast room, dust collector, blast machine, etc. you’re assured of the highest quality abrasive blast equipment bar none – with a lot of time and effort put in to ensure the entire system is designed and manufactured right here in the USA.
