N.W. Metal Fabricators Purchases Titan Blast Room and Equipment for Modern Facility
The new efficient blast room will be in line with a new modern facility being built.
IVYLAND, PA (February 5, 2024) – Titan Abrasive Systems, a premier designer and manufacturer of quality surface preparation, surface finishing, and sandblasting equipment, announces the purchase of a new blast room by N.W. Metal Fabricators, Inc.
The Titan blast room will be installed in the company’s new, temperature-controlled facility under construction in Richland, WA. The room will also include a modern reclaim system, allowing the company to use blast media multiple times. In addition, N.W. Metal will take delivery of new blasting machines as well as upgraded protective gear.
The Blast Room measures 12’ wide x 12’ high x 25’ long, with pass-through doors for increased workflow. The Media Reclaim system is a pit-mounted mechanical recovery system (bucket elevator) with sweep-in hopper. The Blast Machine is a Titan U1000 (10 cu ft capacity) blast machine with dual outlets for two operators.
The reclaim system is an especially attractive feature. N.W. Metal will be switching from silica-free sand to a variety of blast media ranging from garnet to steel grit or shot. All of the blast materials are recoverable, reducing their total operating cost.
Though the new, turnkey blasting system represents a major capital expenditure, James Yates, N.W. Metal’s Powder Coating Manager, believes the company will see a very quick return on its investment.
“The Titan system will pay for itself in so many ways; our increased productivity alone will make this a sound purchase,” he explained. “And being able to reclaim our blast media will show immediate payback.”
The construction of a new facility obviously will allow N.W. Metal to take on more work and generate new revenue streams. But given the efficiency that the Titan blast room offers – plus the fact that the design of the new building creates a more effective workflow – the increase in work capacity will be significantly higher.
N.W. Metal is using a customized blast pot in its current operation. Despite major modifications, including electronic controls, Yates knew he needed more modern blasting equipment in the new facility to increase production while maintaining or improving on the same high quality.
“We wanted a blast system more in line with the quality of the new facility,” Yates said. “After extensive research, Titan just seemed like the best fit, along with more features. Even the LED lighting they use instead of the usual fluorescent lighting is a nice touch.”
The new facility is scheduled to open in mid- to late-2024, likely under a different name but under the same ownership. The existing Hermiston facility will remain operational for projects in the local area.
Yates expects that two dedicated blasters will be assigned to the room, which will be running full-time.
